Hi everyone!
Today we're going to switch gears and talk about something as foundational to yoga as water is to a healthy life. And that's the breath. During my own health transformation, I found that I could use the breath practice I learned in yoga to quiet a chattering mind, calm an unhappy stomach and even stop a panic attack in its tracks. Yup, it’s that powerful!
How does this work? Deep breathing relieves stress and anxiety due to its physiological effect on the nervous system. Breathing slowly and mindfully activates the hypothalamus to send out signals that inhibit stress-producing hormones and trigger a relaxation response in the body.
You can use this breathing technique to manage stress and dissolve anxiety, to regain focus and a clear mind, or to simply calm down at night. Simply find a comfortable place to sit, plug in your headphones, and BREATHE!
