Hi <<First Name>>!
You may have heard that backbends are energizing but today I’m going to explain WHY.
Backbends are often referred to as “heart-opening” postures as when you bend back you open up the front of the body, stretching out all the muscles surrounding the heart and the lungs. As your lungs open, you increase your breath capacity and when you increase your breath, more oxygen is delivered to your body, nourishing and energizing your cells. It’s not just “woo-woo” hippie stuff - it’s science!
Here’s a few of examples of back bending postures:
- Cobra
- Dancer
- Bridge
- Camel

Strike a pose: Show me your favorite energizing posture! Post a photo and tag me @emilynachazel and @tangerinehotpoweryoga and #30daysoftangerine. Since these poses can be intense, you’ll want to make sure you are properly warmed up. After class may be the perfect time - your body is warm and you have plenty of photographers (your fellow challengers and teachers) to capture your pose!
Can’t wait to see your photos!
Emily
PS. Many of you are approaching 20 days of yoga! CONGRATS and YOU ROCK! When you do hit 20 days, you get a 30-minute health strategy session with me. No need to wait until the challenge is over to claim your prize, simply email me to schedule your session!
