Hi <<First Name>>!
Last week we talked about how backbends are energizing. You all are smart cookies so I'm sure you can guess which type of poses are more calming.
Yup, you got it: forward folds.
Forward folds by nature are more introspective and meditative (because you are not looking OUT into the room/world, but rather your gaze is back into yourself). This type of pose is also calming to the nervous system. Forward folds can help relieve headaches, fatigue, stress and mild anxiety and teach us that yoga is as much about surrender as effort, if not more so.
Here are a few of examples of forward folding poses:
- Seated forward fold
- Wide legged forward fold
- Child's pose
- Plow
