Have you seen the new change on Tuesday nights? Jeanette is now teaching a 45min Yin only Yoga class. Join for a chance to slow down, to empower yourself, to come back home to your body.

Yin traditionally comes from a Daoist tradition and is influenced greatly by nature. You will find a lot of postures similar to a typical vinyasa or tangerine flow, but may have names inspired by the earth we live on. Yin is a chance to be grounded, to connect with your physical self in a deeper way. Read on for our favorite benefits of yin...

Yin is a cooling practice. 
Typically we sweat when we move big and a lot. In Yin, you sweat while holding postures and shapes and then release the tension in your body that is in turn releasing heat. 

Yin targets the joints.
As opposed to the muscles, Yin is a great practice if you are interested in keeping the longevity of your yoga work. It is major in helping prevent injuries as it works to strengthen the joints.

Yin is not a practice of alignment or perfection. 
Yin is a practice of sensation. 
Ask yourself how do you feel in the shape? Your internal work while working physically will lead you to a great Yin experience. 

Yin challenges you to slow down, to play with the idea of holding. 
In a world and city where success looks like rapid movement and change, Yin is an opportunity to hold your body still. This is not the typical energy of our city. This is a small amount of time a week where you tap into a different energy; one maybe you didn't know that you needed.

Go somewhere different and explore where you can find more space in yourself.

meet Jeanette D.

Jeanette is your guide for all things magical, practical, and spiritual study. She has been teaching since 2014, a yoga practitioner since 2001, and in NYC since 2003.
Jeanette joined tangerine in 2017, connecting to the studio through Katonah yoga, which is a big part of her teaching.
She says, "I love to teach creative, intricate classes that combine Katonah structure with vinyasa fluidity. My classes are challenging for the body and mind, fun and empowering. I also love to teach Yin - longer holds and challenging in it's stillness - which strengthens your joints and leaves you feeling like you gave yourself a massage."

Her favorite pose to teach is ardha chandrasana or half moon pose. You might hear her singing or find her sewing her own dresses and outfits. 
She loves sleep (especially naps) and is a Gemini. 
Jeanette's favorite yogic philosophy or sutra is 2.46: Sthira Sukanam Asanam which translates to postures should be stable and comfortable. Jeanette says that she is always working to find sweetness and strength in life and in yoga!

meet Grace + Grit Flowers

Tangerine is delighted to share and promote one of our favorite Brooklyn local businesses - Grace + Grit Flowers.

G + G is a full service floral design studio offering flowers for weddings, events and daily deliveries. They also hold workshops, which are coming soon! 
They specialize in dried flower arrangements and installations (see above!)

Brittany started Grace and Grit after growing up in her mother's small family run shop. When she started G + G, she wanted to bring a unique perspective to floral design that wasn't the light and airy photos that are the norm. She was inspired by Dutch Master still life paintings which are often darker and blend flowers with natural elements like fruit, snails, skulls, etc. And so Grace + Grit was created! 

Brittany says her favorite part of what she does is sourcing new and interesting flowers for her customers that you don't normally see. She says, "acting as a liaison between two people to spread messages of love and care is really the best part (this sounds cheesy, I know). I wear many hats in my company and one of them is delivery driver. It is so special to see the joy on someone's face when they receive their flowers and know someone is thinking of them."
